Description:

Greetings,
Let me start by stating this Cav GT has been the focal point of all my free time over the couple of years and I am reluctantly selling it as the boss/wife won’t let me buy another toy without reducing some of my collection.
The GT40 has always been one of the proverbial “boxes” I needed to check off on my list of wants and desires. When I finally made the decision to move towards acquiring one I researched all the offerings in the replica market and landed on the Cav GT as the only one of interest. Unfortunately they are without a doubt one of the most expensive and difficult to locate and I spent nearly three years on my quest to find one.
Let me explain why the Cav GT was the one that piqued my interest:
· Molded off the Original Mark I GT40.
· All Stainless Steel Chassis / Monocoque polished and tig welded. No cheap riveted “space-frame” construction here. Roll-over and side impact protection incorporated adding to its torsionally rigid tub which provides unprecedented safety and handling.
· Hand-Laid fiberglass reinforced epoxy structure. Most are made from chopped fiberglass sprayed out of a gun into the molds as are low end boats.
· Balsa Cored with Epoxy Resins adding unparalleled strength.
· Inner fender well protection.
· DOT glass rear window.
· Updated suspension and brakes.
Additionally, this is the Second (2nd) Cav GT to come off their line so without question every subtle nuance and detail was checked and re-checked as it ultimately was a reflection of their abilities in attracting the not-so-typical replica buyer. The quality of build is even reflected on the finished back-sides of all the panels. Hand laid glass and epoxy resin. Only the first few Cavs were built this way. Please don’t be confused, this is not a kit-car.
I am the third owner and as typical with all my toys, I can’t just leave them be. Adjusting doors and hoods, dialing in all of the components of the car.
Mechanically it’s outfitted with a Bill Andrew’s Balanced & Blue Printed Ford 302 Roller w/ SVO Aluminum Heads, 8 qt sump, oil cooler, etc. which dyno’d at 400HP. Headers are custom stainless in GT40 configuration and I just flow matched a new carb and intake to fine tune its performance. Gearbox/Transaxle is a Getrag Audi 3V unit and it has power disk brakes on all four corners and an Air Conditioning system.
During rebuild upgraded many items from its original configuration:
· Up-Rated & Reinforced Front End Suspension Uprights
· Nylafiber Heim Joints in lieu of standard tie rod ends on the steering rack
· 17” BRM Style GT40 Pin-Drive Wheels
· Goodyear F1 GS-D3 Tires - 315/35/17(rear) & 234/45/17(front)
· Forged Spinners in lieu of cast
· Custom Flowed Holley 650 Double Pumper Carb w/ 4-corner metering
· MSD Distributor and Ignition Box
· Instrumentation: Replaced the smaller VDO gauges with Period Correct Smiths and had the Speedo and Tach re-faced with Smiths overlays and bezels. Original GT40s had Smiths gauges so mine was going to have them too.
· Period Correct Lucas Switches individually fused with a modern wiring harness w/ a Master Shut-Off.
· New Lexan Headlight and Lower Light Covers
· Carpet was replaced with Allante Leather that matches the dash and seats.
· Custom boarderd Floor Mats
· Re-Foamed the Seats to allow for a slight increase in headroom and better back angle.
· Power Door Locks (hidden and remote operated only)
· Stainless Steel Door Strikers
· Center hump was trimmed to allow more room for your right foot (easier heel/toe action).
· Clutch pivot point adjusted for lightened foot pressure allowing smoother engagement.
· Suspension currently adjusted for spirited street use but easily adjusted for track days.
After completing the mechanical upgrades outlined above I thought it necessary to give the cosmetics the same attention. While the paint was in very good condition, it didn’t quite meet the standard of quality I had in mind. I had a local custom/hot rod painter completely strip the body, skim coat it and re-spray it with its original Titanium Silver. You will probably never see a composite bodied car this straight.
I bought it off the owner of an Independent BMW/Volvo/Rover Repair Shop here in KC so you are not purchasing some “unknown” kit car put together in someone’s back yard. This is a very serious Replica/Recreation upgraded and maintained by a knowledgeable gear-head that is truly ready to continue delivery huge grins and excitement with every blip of the loud pedal. I have enjoyed every hour of driving and making improvements on this already impressive car. The suspension is set for the street, not overly stiff but still handles like it is on rails. Minor bumps and railroad crossings are felt but are not going to jar your teeth out as many street cars with performance suspensions do. This is a very well sorted GT40 with no apologies needing to be made.
The current milage is 5200. It will increase since I drive it when ever possible. This car is way to cool to sit.
This is an affordable exotic you can drive and serve yourself and will undoubtedly appreciate in value.
Thanks for your interest and please don’t hesitate to contact me if you need have any further questions or would like to purchase my Cav GT.
