SOLD! ($6,500.00) Great

Description: In 1968, a new GT500 was ordered by a customer at Harr Ford in MA. He paid extra to have the motor built up to have 550hp. Harr Ford worked in conjuction with John Healey at Tasca Ford. I do not know what all Healey contributed to the project, other than building up a special carb. One night before the customer was to pick up the Shelby, it was stolen. There was a secluded area in the town where cars were known to be taken and stripped. A Police Officer on duty saw a fire from the road and before he could investigate, a truck came flying out of a dirt road that came from that area and almost hit his squad car. The engine for the Shelby was in the back of the truck. The two guys in the truck were arrested and the engine was kept for evidence. The Police Chief got tired of seeing the engine in the garage at the Police Station where it had sat for several years. My friend bought it off of the Police Officer that was put in charge of getting rid of it. At this time, it had zero miles on it (actually, it probably had some test miles on it). My friend put it into his 1968 GT500 convertible and put two thousand miles on it. It was taken out when he restored his car (years ago),the original was put back in and the car was sold. I have had the motor about a month. It has the special carb as well as the bell housing, clutch fork, flywheel and I think that the clutch and pressure plate are there (I will have to check).
