C8AE-A is a hydraulic lifter block, these are obvious via there vertical ribs on the block side!. While a side oiler & ok, I would choose the 66 & up blocks as top of the line. C5AE-H; C6AE-B, C, & D; C7AE-A. These are the true Bad A$$ Side Oiler blocks. that being said you can still build a very good street engine with C8AE-A
