I am selling my registered 1965 Shelby cobra. I have only owned this car for a little over a year and enjoyed every minute with it. I am very hesitant to let it go but life goes on. This is a drivers’ car and not a trailer queen. Look close and you will see some age on this car, but it drives so nice. This is the most fun I have ever had in a car and I’ve driven a Ferrari 458 Italia along with other performance cars. The engine stays cool even in the Sacramento heat. This car sounds incredible, is very powerful, and brings you back to what driving is all about. It’s more comfortable than most people expect but its still a race car. The wife and I have taken road trips in this car and had incredible experiences. It’s loud when you want to have fun but when you get into fifth gear the RPM’s drop and it just cruises nice and quiet.
I have taken great care of this car with only limited spirited driving. Per the previous owner and I this car has never been on a race track or shows signs that its been raced. At the beginning of this year I had it in a Cobra owners’ group recommended shop (FE Specialties) where they went through everything. $10,000 worth of everything. Primarily maintenance and a few upgrades. It is registered as a 1965 which means no smog and forgoes certain vehicle regulations.
Why am I selling this car? I love this car and I don’t want to sell it. But, there are several reasons I can no longer avoid; first, this car is fast and begs to be driven which in-turn scares my wife (she’s the boss). Second, life’s responsibilities have come-up and financially it makes sense.
This car was built in the factory by Superformance and if you don’t know about Superformance than see below;
The Superformance rolling chassis is the most sought after continuation car in the United States and is recognized in the industry as the leader in 1960's racing legends reproduction cars. All Superformance rolling chassis are factory built and assembled utilizing all "NEW" parts. Meticulous attention to detail is evident throughout and is noted in the body fitment, paint and the smallest aspect of our chassis. Superformance products are aesthetically and dimensionally correct and are engineered in the image of the classic sports car of yester year. The Superformance rolling chassis is a completely assembled and ready for the buyer to install drive train of their choice. Superformance products are built under license from trademark holders, adding authenticity and value. Our Replicars and continuations are track proven and built to be street driven. Superformance has an online parts catalog, owner's forum and a product registry.
Comes with; Owners manual, drivetrain specs handbook, recent head flow chart, fitted drivers cover, mechanics fender cover, new shifter cover, extra performance steering wheel, new chrome coolant resv., performance oil and filter for next oil change, sun visors, windscreens, side mirrors, safety wire with spinner, and lead hammer. Service record for recent $10k service. You will also get 60 photos of this car along with the high quality professional photos.
I have nothing to hide with this car so here are the known blemishes; the front end has small rock chips and there are minor blemishes/wear around the car. You would have to look close to notice most of it. The dust covers on the ball joints are worn and should be replaced but it doesn’t affect the driving. I recently had an issue with the water temperature gauge not working correctly. During the recent service I had the speedometer/tachometer replaced because the tach stopped working. The original tachometer showed 10k miles on it but between me and the previous owner we logged all of our miles (using GPS). Added up (rounding up) the car has 31k miles on it. The new tachometer was started at zero miles. I have always used premium Chevron fuel in this car with high quality fuel treatment.
