I bought some of that stuff and used it a few times. Unfortunately, the paint started showing scuffing. So, now I just put two heavy coats of car wax along the rub area and wait for each of them to dry. Then, I mount the top and polish off the dryed wax that shows, inside and outside of the top. This seems to protect the paint much better than the plastic. Probably because it lubricates the weatherstrip and allows it to move some without scratching the paint.
