Ed,
Hot water and liquid soap will take off the left over compound-might have to soak a little. Black stuff??? Hmm, if wd-40 wont touch it - is it paint? Wondering if maybe "BAKKERS" didn't spry something under the hood, for what ever reason-when they cut out the wiring , or Mears when they were trying to get it to run ?

Buffing/Polishing the ENTIRE car outside would be a great thing! "WIZARDS" Final compound at the "heaviest" grade or even the "Final" grade with a foam pad will probably take the dull glaze out. It IS buffed, just didn't see that it wasn't finalized! Looked good in the shop! Another hour or two with your 'to be' new polisher will do it wonders!

(Keep me informed on spark plug wires -Aye?)

Wheels??? Compound shouldn't touch the chrome at all! Hmmm? Chrome cleaner/polisher?
