I agree to a point...this war can't be won from the traditional sense. But, as long as we're in their backyard they have focused their energy on us there. If we pull out, then it opens up their resources to be used for another 9/11. Also, to leave would be a huge victory for those we've been keeping busy making roadside bombs in Iraq (ie Iran). If we adopt the pre-WW2 attitude of avoiding the fight, the ant's nest gets so big you're stuck establishing new beachheads, new airbases, ect when the problem gets out of control. The only question becomes how long can we afford this war(s)? We could easily become like the 'ol Soviets in Afgan.
I fear Iran, they've got nothing to loose...and are making great steps in being the major force in the Gulf who also happens to not like us.
