I hope I checked it enough. Barley tightened the flywheel, just enough to set it, replace the bell housing, just tight enough and not all the bolts then turned it over, sounded sweet. Removed the bellhousing, again, torqued down the fly wheel, installed the clutch and pressure plate, reinstalled the bellhousing, and retightened most bolts and tried the starter again, seemed to work fine.
This is the 3rd starter, the first one froze up, the one that ate the ring gear had a defective bearing in the nose. It told the starter it was done, so the gear went back and forth like a jack hammer.
Oh well. Better times comin.
