That is a very bad way to do it, and I say this without trying to inject any malice to a particular brand. Here's why:

You select a kit from Brand F and it goes in your garage/storage unit. Basically it sits as a number of boxes and parts (stuff you don't need while saving for the other 50% of what you will need to ever have a legal driving car).

While you are saving Company F is busy developing new updates or perhaps correcting old sins of the product you are now married to. Perhaps in the meantime you find the funds to purchase an engine or transmission and that goes in the shop with all the other parts/pieces.

So maybe we are 4 years into it and it's time to start building, but now Tremec has a better transmission on the market that costs less, the engine guys have a new head design or a better EFI system is out... you are now assembling with what you have instead of what is the best. Or you are spending double now to get those new parts and sell off the others.

When you have the resources (money and time to assemble it all) then buy the components in a reasonable time frame.
