CT Composites, state's name for kit cars and replicas, are now exempt from emission testing, approx 300 registered in the entire state which includes kit cars/replicas other than Cobra.

Prior to the exemption, the engine hardware/software required based upon the year of the engine block, with proof required. Not knowing CA regulations, if the year of the block is 1965 or earlier, an alternative for selecting an engine block ? CT also had specific emissions standards which applied only to Composites.
