You could check to see if the clutch plate is fouling on the spline ,My tko had the input shaft spigot machined back 5/8" so it could fit back in where the top loader came out.
So the clutch plate spline was then hard up against the input shaft spline end.
what im trying to say is when clutch is pushed ,the clutch plate could not move back away from the flywheel. I had to machine some of the spline out of the rear of the clutch plate to give it the clearance required .
Now it shifts effortlessly and no need to shift into first to select reverse.
