Yes you have them connected correctly.
You have probably tripped the warning light switch, you should remove the white switch on the side of the master cylinder.
This switch has a small pin that slides into the master cylinder piston, when it travels too far the pin locks into the piston and limits its travel.
So try removing that switch, pump the pedal a couple of times and refit the switch.
