Yes, first gear is a "show" gear. Pretty much worthless. If you go with a 3.73 in the rear as I had originally planned, then the highway RPM's in 6th get below the power curve range and you really don't save any gas. If you are using an engine with fuel injection where you can map the power curve and fine tune everything, that is a much better way to go.

That's why I said you might as well go with a 5 speed. On a car with a carb, having a 6 speed is almost useless. You either tailor it to first gear or 6th gear.
