If they are positively identified as pirates and are attacking a navy ship (or any other ship for that matter), I would much prefer we just sink them. They are a real problem in that part of the world and we need to increase their cost of doing business wherever we can.
I don't see how sinking a pirate ship that is actually firing on you generates bad
PR. The only way I see bad
PR is if you harm innocent people, fire on ships before being fired upon, etc. No way that is going to be a problem here.
