Default Gettin too hot too fast...

I think I know the answer to this one but I just want someone elses opinion. My 428 CJ is a new build by a reputable machine shop but I think they missed something.

At start up my temp will peg to over 220 degrees in less than 3 minutes. I checked my thermostat and even removed it. Same result got hot in 3 mins. Full of oil and water and water is circulating. Timing is at 10 degrees. I think I have a blown head gasket or cracked head. My thoughts are that I am getting exhaust gas in my water ports. Any thoughts on this. By the way there does not appear to be any oil in my water...yet.

Sure not looking forward to the tear down.
