Default Ignition / Tachometer wiring

I'm using a Mallory 6al ignition control module and an MSD magnetic trigger distrubutor.

Tom's wiring diagram for the tachmeter (follow the link in the gauge advertisement) indicates the yellow wire from the ignition module should connect to the yellow wire from the back of the tach.

My tach has a yellow with a green stripe that connects to a yellow wire in the wiring harness which I can't follow without invading the harness in some fashion.

Does the tach receive its signal from some other source? I don't want to splice into the harness unless I absolutely have too.

I am running the wires from the ignition module to the coil under the dash and through the firewall on the driver's side - I have to extend the wires either way. I am running the distributor wires through the firewall on the passenger side (no extension necessary).

Any suggestions for the power wires? I am planning on attaching the positive to the 50 amp power distribution block right next to the fuse box and grounding the other wire. The instructions say attach directly to the battery terminals. Some have suggested attaching the positive wire to the battery side of the starter solenoid - that makes sense, but it is more of a job to route the wires.
