Default Front Cam Bearing Mods on FE ??

I'm going to assemble a used FE fom SA after i dismantled it completely for a rebuild.

One question about the front cam bearing. The one i had in the engine is grooved to front of engine. I do not mean the centre groove connecting the bearing oil hole and the dizzy oil hole.

The "front" bearing shoulder is cutted from front of bearing until the above mentioned centre groove. It looks like SA did it to allow oil splashing from the bearing against the cam thrust plate or timing gear.

Is this a common trick and should i groove the new front cam bearing the same way?

Greetings from Germany,
Westcott
