Hello, everyone.
I'm currently going to school at Texas Tech University for Petroleum Engineering. I've had it set in my mind for years now that when I graduate and get a good paying job, I'll buy a Cobra kit (w/ donor car) for my dad for either Father's Day or sometime around the Holiday season.
There will be some rules laid down before he can accept the gift, though. lol. I have to be able to choose and build the motor myself (based on what I think he can handle, and what I would like it to sound like) and I get to help throughout the build process. Everything else, he can pick. Wheels/tires/paint color/etc.
I know this is his dream car, and he used to be into buliding hotrods before he and my mom decided to make a big family.
We are definitely a Ford family, and I think if I could just get him his dream car, it would open up that old hot rodder inside of him and give him something to be happy to go to the shop to work on (besides just working around the house or doing things for other people all the time).
Also, if you all have any suggestions as to what motor I should go with (budget in mind of course, no $25,000+ FE's or anything, haha).
I'm thinking a 347 with a big cam (small LSA), and high-compression (using a race-gas mix?), AFR heads, with all the dressings would suit him nicely. If it were mine I would take the 351 stroker route, but I think the 347 would be enough, if not a little dangerous for him. Any ideas/input on this motor set-up or an alternative would be helpful.
Thanks, and I look forward to getting to know you while building my knowledge in the heart of the Cobra family.
