Well, back in the day it was GM that fit under the hood with less install hassels with less steering and suspension issues. Also the GM stuff stayed uniform for 50yrs where as Ford was always changing stuff.
The GM stuff was cheaper and you got more HP for your dollar. All this was before you could buy stuff from 1-800-billitt.
You could make a Ford just as fast but you had to work at it and it cost because Ford just didn't get it until they started messing with a 289 but it still took awhile for the hot rodders to catch on.
Today I would say Ford may have a slight advantage in power to price on new modern crate engines.
