There are a few possible factors influencing a decision to do it now, if you can, as opposed to the 1st business day in January 2011:

1. Temporary Operating Permits can be discretionary and can vary per DMV. There's no guarantee you'll get them, plus you'll have to visit the DMV a least a few times, which isn't my favorite place to visit. Less time spent there the better.

2. Who wants to get in line in January, very early on typically a cold morning? Summer time, when people vacation, things are more relaxed, sounds like a much nicer time to me.

3. Tax rates could go up next year, depending on when you start your registration process.

4. The economy can change (I hope) quickly. You may encounter more demand for SB100 #'s next year.

Getting it done sooner rather than later seems always like a more appealing option to me. Why put off untill tomorrow what you can done today?
