Out of that 10% who do know what it is, about half of them might actually care what is under the bonnet. Most of them are more interested in how big the motor is, not what brand.
I just assumed that everyone knew what a Cobra was, and the history behind them, but I guess we must be in the minority to pour so much money and time into a classic car.

Classic statement Beejay ! I've had mine registered for ages, unpainted and ugly...still building and improving. When I drive it (usually for rego tests and test drives) nobody looks at it. One comment from a HQ ute driver "geeze it's ugly mate". I've also had to explain what , how and history of the Cobra to many people who don't have a clue what the car is. Like you said only 10% know and they DO ask engine size first. I don't know what they say when someone says "It's a chev not a Ford".....mines a ford
