Hi Boxhead. Sideshows offer was extremely generous, and I hope I have not offended him, it was not my intention. It was only for convenience that I placed the order as it was easier to get it in a post bag, than drive to Sideshow's premises, and I felt to ask him to post it to me after giving it away would be too much on my part, as I have not as yet even met him in person, to be able to take that liberty.

With regards to the safety issue, the wire is only 150mm in length at the starter solenoid junction, and it is designed to fail and melt, but not catch fire as the insulation on this type of wire is different. The original one did just this, it got hot and smelly, and eventually the insulation pealed back a little at the point the wire melted completely, but did not catch alite at any time. I share your concerns regarding fire under the hood, but I feel quite comfortable that this should not happen with the Fussible link Wire.

They are infact a safety feature, as they are designed to fail before a more serious fire, such as behind the dash etc can occur due to an electrical overload etc.. I hope I am not wrong in this and will explore the other options. Perhaps sideshow with his knowledge may be able to offer some advice or suggest what alternative would be best.
