Default This is important and deserves a complete answer.

The fuel injection pump is probably built to supply 35 psi, so you may want to replace it with one that only supplies 5 to 7 psi for the carb. Otherwise, the pump will be wasting energy and heating up the fuel. If it is an "In-tank" type of pump, these are cooled by the fuel and usually last a very long time so I would leave it alone and just use a regulator to drop the pressure at the carburetor.

I am a great believer in installing a back up fuel pump in case the primary fails. This has allowed me to drive home on at least 6 occasions instead of riding home on a flatbed. A standard $40 solid state pump will do. You will need a switch and a relay to change from one pump to the other.

There is an additional safety circuit you should consider if you do not already have it. An inertia switch will cut off power to the fuel pump(s) if you have an accident. Juts put it on the ground side of the pump.
