ARP like to see studs very lightly tightened. Many aircraft trained mechanics prefer to see them loose - unbottomed. I know of at least a couple high end builders that like to use a ball bearing in the bottom of a threaded stud hole so that the stud is not forced sideways by the threads as it it tightened.
