427 Blocks etc......
I believe in giving something new a chance. I have posted in the past my feelings about competition.....it's very good for those of us looking for new FE castings. I will again mention my best wishes to Tim and Genesis and the long difficult task of producing a new casting of the 427 Blocks.
My family started an iron/brass foundry way back around 1908...I grew up being involved in this foundry along with our other manufacturing and machining business (Irrigation Pumps & Farm Equipment)...our family company was bought out by Ingersol-Rand in 1978. I continued with IR until 1991. One of my many manufacturing tasks was bringing new Pump lines into production. I probably bought close to 500 new complicated patterns in that time and produced hundreds of new parts for this industry...from 1 pound to 2500 pound parts...from Iron to Stainless to Bronze and aluminum.... IT ISN"T EASY TO BE PERFECT THE FIRST TIME!!!!
Genesis and Indy Pattern have been through this process before...I believe they know what they're doing....but it takes time to get a good finished casting and even more time to get the final product machined and in the hands of people who can do the testing.....We need to give them a chance to get these tasks completed and I believe they will end up having a very positive impact on all of us interested in the FE engine lines.
The Shelby block is a wonderful casting and the machine work too....anything new needs additional personal tweaking to meet individaul needs.....So I'll just emphasize again......Give Genisis some more time and the wait will be worth it I'm sure! The wait may be weeks or many more months....then the "I have a real one" syndrome will start and Genesis will have to deal with that consideration as no matter what...the Genesis block will never be a real block...just as the Shelby block will never be a real block....but a new and better block with and old name and great old tradition!
