You don't have to go for a genuine GM factory crate motor when it comes to the LSX engine. There are plenty of shops now building complete engine packages for very reasonable money.

A shop I've had some dealings with do an LSX 454 short motor for $6K and a complete long motor for just over $10K. You have the option of the super strong LSX iron block or the LS7 aluminum block (a 440cube version). The long block motor comes with CNC ported LS7 cylinder heads. This motor would make some serious mumbo.
