Thank you, I approached this issue earlier in the thread. It seems to me that the bypass function is probably a "fail-safe" to ensure
oil flow to the engine in the case that the filter becomes clogged up to the degree that it would not allow adequate
oil flow. I change mine probably twice a year, and I doubt that I ever get more than 1,000, maybe 1,500 miles on the oil/filter. I was a bit worried about excess oil pressure, but it doesn't seem that issue is a big one, either.
The issue of "micron" capture seems more important to me....and I have to wonder if there is a greater pressure drop across one of the two filters of the same manufacturer (perhaps MotorCraft) with filter media of different "micron" ratings. (hint, hint, Madmaxx!!)
