I'm running the old ERA type front brakes, Camaro single piston. Recently at Infineon that worked really well. The biggest problem was over heating, which I'm not sure an upgraded caliper would address anyway. I need high temp fluid, some cooling ducts, high temp pads, etc.

But the real problem wasn't even the front brakes, it was the rear inboard brakes! They over heated and resulted in a mushy pedal while the fronts were still good to go. I removed the access panel in the rear to allow for air flow to the rears and that worked well.

Of course a larger multi piston caliper allows for better feel and thus modulation to the point of impending lock up, but, those stock Camaro fronts sure exceeded my expectations.

I think you would have to be seriously racing, high speed, plenty of laps on a course that is known for being hard on brakes before you would absolutely require something more.
