I just used a pair of channel locks to take off the old switch. I didn't have to take off the side gill. It is easy to get to. I used a (I believe was a 1" socket) socket and ratchet to put on the new one. You have to tighten it quite a bit to keep it from leaking. It didn't take more than 15 mins.
