The "new" club rego your reffering to has been in use in the NT for the past 12 months (I think we copied it from NSW).
This is the 90 day permit (60 days on club organised/sanctioned events and 30 days for private usage)
This is what my Valiant Station wagon is currently on.

Also I think you are right in so far as R/H drive is ADR issue and not roadworthy, but you must meet ADR's for full rego, where as club rego is roadworthy only.

I sort of looked at putting my Cobra on club rego instead of full rego (to save engineer hassles) but was advised I could not do so as to be roadworthy it would need a compliance plate or letter advising vehicle is compliant but plate not required, and to get this I would have to meet ADR regulations.
