Some of the firing order swaps are done to decrease a certain amount of loading on the crankshaft at one time.

There are lots of firing order swaps available. For instance, you can order Chevrolet cams with a 4/7 swap. You'll hear different opinions/stories on it. Some say it gains a few horsepower on the right combinations...others say it doesn't make a hill of beans difference.
