Not Ranked
There was an article about Shelby's personal 427 Cobra many many years ago where it ran about 13 seconds in the quarter. As I remember it had 4.1 gears with a 12/1 compression and was running Goodyear racing tires. I was on the first Shelby cruise and asked Shelby why it ran so slow. He got pissed at me about the question and said it was set up for the street. Now I had driven my car as a daily driver and ran mid 12's with a best of 12.40 at 112. My Cobra had the 428 with 3.54 gears. The only changes were side exhaust, 780 Holley, dual point distributor and rain race tires. I believe my car was more of a street car since I had driven it about 48,000 miles in 4 years.
Most of the original SC Cobras ran from 12.2 to 12.4 in the quarter but many were slower. It generally depended on the tires being used and the driver. I had a friend who ran 12.0 at 125 with very hard race tires on his SC Cobra. I know how bad they were because I got them from him and couldn't get any traction. His motor was not stock and I think he would have run in the low 11's with good tires and in the 10's with slicks.
