If you have painted before there should not be a problem. I painted mine and I found it relatively painless except when I went to layout my stripes. I used a magic marker (bad idea). Stripes looked great but my reference marks showed through. Had to sand everything down and redo from primer up.

Sand the gelcoat with 80 grit paper then apply your primer and start working down any imperfections using a guide coat. Be sure and use a catalyst primer to seal off the fiberglass.

The color coat lays down real well using clear coat process. If I remember right once you lay down your stripe you have about 12 hours to complete your base color and start your clear. I think this also vary's with manufacturers. Be sure you have good lighting and a respirator.
