Pull out the no. 1 spark plug, put your finger over the hole, turn the engine over by hand until pressure develops. Look at your timing mark on the front and adjust to 0 deg TDC.
Now align your rotor of your distributor to point to no. 1 spark plug wire and re-insert.
Point the timing light and your done.
This saves you from the mess of pulling the cover.
