I have a T-56 6 speed in my Cobra. Unless your car is fuel injected using an engine with a huge torque curve (maybe 1500 - ?) I would not use it. I have 4.56 rear gears with maybe a 27" tall tire and it cruises down the highway at around 2200 RPM@ 70 mph. That makes first gear pretty worthless. I can drop the rear ratio, which I had planned on doing, but then 6th gear will be in the 1800 RPM range @ 70 mph. This is outside the torque curve of the engine, so it will pretty much kill that gear. Programmable fuel injection can cure these problems, but it would probably be cheaper to put a 5 speed in the car.
Go with some type of 5 speed and make the rear gears match what range you want to cruise in. It will be less shifting, higher torque rating on the trans, and easier on your engine.
