Sad to see a Kirkham meet its end in a movie, but in truth that was a good move from the standpoint of "continuity".
Had they used a fiberglass replica, anyone who knows anything about the original Shelby Cobras would have known that the one crushed in IronMan was a "fake" when they saw the fiberglass shatter. At least, with the Kirkham being a metal replica, it lent an air of credibility to the premise that Tony Stark had more money than sense

The original IronMan is one of my favorite movies, the sequel not so much
