I actually OWN three Vincents, including a 1950 Shadow that I've owned since 1980 and ridden for 30,000 miles. Also have owned three more at various times. Did you ever ride one?

The truth is they handle very well (especially for their time); they are about the only classic bike that can be ridden in today's traffic and keep up without self-destructing. This undeserved reputation was the result of beat to crap examples with worn out dampers and fork bushings. That and the fact that Shadows were the fastest production motor vehicle (not just motorcycle) in the world for several years.

Try driving your cobra with worn out dampers and steering and see how safe it is ...
