Found an
oil this weekend that should eliminate the need for
Zinc/Phos additive. It is Valvoline VR-1 Racing
oil with high
zinc content. Actual numbers are .13 percent
zinc and .14 percent phosphrous. O'Reilly regularly stocks it. (1300 ppm and 1400 ppm if I did my math right). It is available in 20w/50.
.12 percent or 1200 ppm seems to be the general concensus on how much you should have for a flat tappet motor.
Saves you money on not having to buy the additive in addition to the motor
oil. Valvoline also makes the high zinc in a full
synthetic blend Racing oil.
