well i'm a carpenter & yes you can put h4 in ground but i wouldn't if the pergola is going to be in cased in a slab swelling & contraction of the posts will lead to cracking of the slab eventualy, but each to there own stirrups are the go but some want them in ground & termites still will eat through t2 & h4 grades if you don't believe me i'll send you pics of a house that had treated post $ 24k ago + a new kitchen /bathroom & deck posts & ive still got to do the roof trusses yet
