If you decide to sponsor it then, You have to first define it.

The gathering would have to have some kind of theme or meaning tied to it;

If it were to be held in a place or destination.
With some planned activity when people are there.
OR
If a drive, (example) possibly a Charity Drive... get people to pledge $______ for every mile you drive. Being raised and donated to a charity.
OR
Tie in to a toys for tots drive with another activity sceduled with it.
OR
Somekind of Street Car Challenge... Cobras against Vipers?
