For me, I never bother taking them off. But that's not a bad idea for three reasons:

1) The pads do interfere with the top (I don't bother driving in weather when I'll need the top).

2) If you wanted to remove them for a show, velcro is faster than cutting the zip ties and then having to use a dozen new ones to put them back on.

3) Most importantly, it might encourage somebody to actually pad their roll bar if they knew they could easily take it off when they wanted to. I have a buddy who is getting over a blunt-force trauma injury to the head due to a very minor mishap, but his head hit the unpadded roll bar.

I'll drop this tangent now though and let the thread go back to the original topic.
