Dude, I have a 3.31:1 and a close-ratio toploader behind a mild (475HP) sideoiler. Most advised the wide ratio, but all the high performance Corvettes I've had (and my last cobra, 460-powered) had the close-ratios, and I loved 'em. I decided on a close-ratio, and was also a little concerned, until I drove it for the first time, and I wouldn't have it any other way...with the torque it has, there's no problem moving away from a dead stop, and first and second gears are soooo long. Also, the shifts are just "right there", with little rpm drop. All in all, a very sweet experience. Go close!
