The old school 830 seems to work very, very well in numerous applications. I've run several on the dyno with pretty good results. I use and sell a lot of Quick Fuel stuff and its also pretty darn good - just cosmetically different. For some guys that is important, for others less so.
I generally go big on carbs. I spent a few years working at Holley and I can make a big carb drive just fine - but have not mastered the art of making a small one "big".
