The amp in the boot setup with a direct connection to an iPod is not as simple as I thought. Of course, the stereo sellers say that won't work, but it will to some extent if you have a pre-amp or an amp with gain and controls for frequency range. The Clarion unit still looks the best to me and has great reviews and suits all applications that may get wet. Dickering with prices in Australia and the US is the current issue.
