It is so true. Had Carroll not taken that little British car and put a huge American V8 in it and subsequently (with the Cobra and its variants) collectively wupped a**, the little Bristol AC-Ace would have suffered the same obscurity as the Berkeley. There would still be a few around, but noone would think anything of them.
The fact that the Cobra is the most copied car in the world is only due to what Carroll and his team of California racers did with it.
