AHA show in Pomona
After an early start Friday morning, Don M. and I had an uneventful trip towards Pomona until we reached Palm Springs. The dark clouds and slight rain spelled the shape of things to come. As we proceeded west on the I10 the rain began to fall until it became a torent...and I mean a torent!! We took some shelter twice under some overpasses and one gas station but we were already soaked. We proceeded on to the Sheraton Hotel at the Fairplex, still in the rain. The hotel had no cover available in the parking lot but after talking to the Manager we were allowed park at the lobby entrance between the ingress/egress doors to the lobby. We backed in and raised the hood for the guests to view the motor and checked in. Great hotel!
After a good nights sleep and early breakfast, Don and I drove around the corner to Gate 1 (100yds away) and set up in the lot in front of the Wally Parks Museum. Very light turnout due to the rain or threat of rain, but a great time anyway. Met Peter Brock and his wife, Gail. Very nice people. Everyone at the show was enjoyable and pleasant and had some nice cars. At end of the day, we went home with a first place trophy in our class and a hard luck trophy for our inclement weather experiences.
The next day we wanted to go to the swap meet but it was a zoo and a parking nightmare for my car. We decided to forego the meet and hit the road home. Pleasant trip and weather going home but very severe crosswinds. Did manage to get a high of 26 mpg on one segment.
Will try to post some photos later.
Thanks go to Don Morse for all his help with the car prep.
Ciao!
