Hyde: I had something similar happen. I had replaced the connecting lines from the tank to the fuel pump. I had previously found what looked like small bits of rubber in the fiters on top of the carbs and thought a hose was disintegrating. While replacing the hoses I replaceds the strainer in the tank and everything forward, and cleaned everything including the cutoff pieces of hose internally before reassembly. Afterwards on 3 different occasions I found the idle jets on 2 different carbs plugged with very small bits of what I can best desribe as translucent plastic flakes, like that of a plastic milk container(?). I have no materials like that within the system and have a filter near the tank an the individual ones on top of the carbs. What I did discover is that when they are installed, the small filters on top of the carbs are compromised. The bottom surface gets bowed and does not seal as designed on the bottom surface of the fuel inlet of the carb. This happens when the threaded brass plug is tightened and partially collapses the filter in an attempt to seal it (by design) and the ribs in the filter cause it to become deformed on the bottom sealing surface.

That doesn't explain what the material blocking the carbs was but does explain how it got in the jets. The only other explanation was that it is some sort of scale that may have formed in the fuel having been in the car for several months.??? I hope I am through with this issue. 7 cylinder Cobras are a drag..........
Repetative cleaning of the jets causes you to loose faith.
