For those of you that missed the event, here is what transpired. I'll leave the itty bitty details out for those of you who want to add on.
Friday 5:45am - A publicity interview was set up with CBS affiliate KEYE News. We initially were to be given 2 live spots during the early morning newscast. We had seven cars show which was awesome. Thanks to everyone who showed. The live spots and exposure seemed to go so well that the 2 spots turned into 6 spots lasting into 7 o'clock hour. They were supposed to go do something else but they liked us so much, they blew off whatever else they had planned and stayed with us. They also did some additional taping and added us to their 12 o'clock news show. We all had a blast and went to eat at IHOP afterwards.
Friday evening - We had a great turnout at Townplace Inn. Many rigs and Cobras were there. Doug Reed hosted this event and brought all the booze. I don't think it lasted all that long though. Now, if we can just get Tom to keep his pants on during these functions...
Saturday a.m. - The turnout was terrific. I believe there was 54 cars lined up for the photo opp with the Austin skyline in the background. Of these 54, 53 participated in the poker run. I believe there were 5 or 6 other cars that were either broken or had to leave earlier. If I am not mistaken, the total count was either 59 or 60. We sold almost all the shirts which was enough to pay for the initial cost of them. I have about 20 left if anyone is interested (5 large, 15 2xlarge). Many took advantage of the photographer that I had show up. He had individual, action and poster size pictures available. Didn't that poster picture turn out great. If your interested in obtaining any of these, email me and I can get you in touch with Jack.
Saturday Poker run - This was a real treat. The first half was a wide open road where you could relax and ride or get a chance to clean the carbon from your carb. Many stopped and relaxed in Marble Falls for some refreshments and potty breaks. I think one car broke down which was a 5.0 Mustang. All the cobras made it. By this time much of the field had broken into 2 groups. The first group went down the Lime Creek rd route was a beautiful view around the lake. But several turns kept your attention as you had to slow in some of them to 15mph. The second group which had stopped in Marble Falls missed the Lime Creek turn and ended up going straight back to Joe's.
Saturday pm - We all gathered at Joe Z's ranch for festivities. Barbecue was a plenty. It's a wonderful manicured pasture where all the Cobras parked. Bill Dollohite brought his Shelby Can-Am racer and I brought my Ford powered SRF for viewing enjoyment. The prizes were handed out, new president, treasurer and secretary were voted in. At this point, we were supposed to have Bill Dollohite present as a guest speaker. He has some great Carroll Shelby stories. But with all the excitement, we all had a brain fart and forgot to bring him up. Then the band started. Great Texas blues music by the Stretch Williams Band.
There was less than a handful of participants left by 9pm.
Sunday, everyone went home...bummer.
