I'll have the wife in the passenger's seat working the maps for me - very very old fart technology!
But then in 91 we never got lost using the same method - except when we struck one T intersection with signs indicating directions to the same town in both directions - WTF!!
Anyone driving through the lakes district, go look for Upper and Lower Slaughter.
Real town names I kid you not and both towns consist only of stone constructed buildings if memory serves correctly. Very beautiful area!
And we too are looking at a Golf or Pug for transport around the UK.
