The W code 1968 427 engines had hydraulic lifters, iron crank and buldges on pistons.
It was the last side oiler engine offered by Ford and only with a C6 automatic. All other 427 production engines were four speeds.

Stock, it was the lowest power 427 at 390 HP vs. 410 for a 1963 1/2 single 4v center oiler.

I had a GT-E Cougar 427 and saw one fine example sell for $165,000 Barrett-Jackson. There were only 357 made in 1968 only. 256 were XR-7 models and 101 were standard Cougars without a tachometer.
